Empty Nests
cedar vale ravine - june 18, 2022
I’m working on an episode about fledglings leaving the nest. Going into spring, I knew this was on my to-do list and was actively looking for opportunities to get the footage I needed: nests with eggs, attentive parents, and baby chicks. So far, that has proved next to impossible. Or I just have no idea what I’m doing, and where.
Today’s effort took me to the beautiful wooden pedestrian bridge spanning cedar vale ravine. In theory I could look down into the trees below and find active nests. In practice, there was one that looked like it was from this season, but bereft of parents, chicks or eggs.
It was an uncommonly cold and windy morning so I jogged on the spot to keep warm and shot some useful but not exactly mindblowing footage of black squirrels and red-winged blackbirds and called it a morning.
